Let There Be Light

I have some very serious matters to discuss. Specifically, lamps. Even more specifically, lamp shades.

You’re asking - Rachael, how on earth can you dedicate an entire blog post to lamp shades, have you gone crazy? Well- maybe! I just truly love lamp.

About a year ago, I noticed this lighting trend slowly swinging back from the 1980’s pendulum from which it came. As a part of the postmodern trend (a late 70’s - early 90’s revival of all things interiors) we’re currently seeing shades almost fully triangular in shape. These shades (along with some other funky-shaped friends) are taking the place of the classic drum shade we’ve all come to know so well.

I personally am loving the postmodern revival trend, but in small doses. I’m not ready to swan dive deep into a Saved by the Bell reboot, but I’ll gladly dip my toe in the shallow end.

The shapes and colors of postmodernism are fun and fearless, and mix well with other modern (and vintage) pieces.

Switching out a drum shade for a highly tapered shade is a simple way to test out the postmodern revival look in your own home without going over the top!

Below are some of my favorite products and designs embracing this trend.
